Xander led Siobahn slowly along the edge of the night club into a small, private room off the main floor. It had a two way mirror inside so that you could see out into the club but no one else could see in. The nervous young woman followed him inside and looked around nervously, noting how secluded it was. “You’re alright.” Xander said softly, smiling at her. “I won’t hurt you.”
Siobahn nodded and took a seat. “What are you?” she asked, waiting nervously for the answer.
“I’m an incubus.” He replied flatly.
“I…see…” she responded curiously. “I’ll admit, I’ve never met an incubus before. I’m a little…nervous.”
Xander just smiled. “I promise you, you have met at least one before me. There are a lot of us, some just keep a lower profile than others.” He turned to glare at the tip of his tail that was still pointing at Siobahn. Almost as if it had a mind of its own it tilted upward to look at Xander’s face and then quickly retreated behind him and out of sight.
Siobahn let out an unexpected laugh and quickly put her hand over her face to hide her amusement. “I’m sorry!” She said, trying to regain her composure “That was just genuinely funny!”
Xander smiled and sat down across from her. “I know, that's why I did it.” he replied with a wink.
Siobahn’s expression became a bit more serious. “Are you…are you going to use your powers on me…to hypnotize me?” Her voice trembled slightly.
Xander gave a soft but disarming laugh. “Not this time. I thought this time we’d start with something a bit more classical and less scary.” He winked and pulled out an old antique pocket watch. It was clearly originally gold, but time and wear had tarnished the finish. But it was still very reflective and a very lovely antique. “Just relax, Siobahn…and follow the watch…” he started as he began swinging the watch slowly from side to side between them.
Siobahn burst out laughing. “You’re joking right?” she said, trying to contain her laughter so she didn’t offend the incubus. “Like, this is a cliche, it won’t work. Especially not on me.” she said, not realizing that her eyes were unconsciously starting to look at the watch. Not really following it yet, but trying to get a better view of its intricate design and details.
Xander let the question hang in the air for a few moments while the watch slowly swayed back and forth in front of Siobahn. “It’s ok to laugh…” he reassured her eventually. “Laughing helps you to release tension, to release nervousness. Just let it go, and you’ll find that you start to feel so much more relaxed. So much more…calm and at peace.” The watch continued its relentless swing, back and forth, back and forth between them.
To her surprise Siobahn found that as he spoke she began to laugh, and then…it was like a weight had been lifted from her. She was still nervous about offending him since he had been so kind to her. But now that she had permission to laugh, she didn’t feel the need to hold it in anymore. And in doing so, she realized just how much more calm she was feeling. For the first time, probably the entire evening, she felt her shoulders and her chest relax as her body slumped in its chair. Enough to finally, for the first time, feel like she wasn’t completely on guard.
“Just let yourself breathe normally.” The incubus continued. “Hypnosis isn’t something that you force…it’s not something that you make happen. It’s something that you simply allow to happen.” He let the words hang in the air for a few minutes as he watched Siobahn’s eyes slowly start to follow the watch while her shoulders began to relax. That was a good sign. “I know how you are feeling…” he said with a long pause, “you're excited, but nervous…you’ve seen so much here, and probably seen hypnosis so many times before this, in movies or books. You’ve always been very…curious, but nervous.”
Siobahn didn’t realize that she was unconsciously starting to nod her head. Not a lot, not enough to shift her gaze from the pocket watch, but just enough to let Xander know that she was following along very nicely.
Xander’s face betrayed a slight grin. He loved watching the uptight, nervous type start to sink for the first time. It was something truly special. “You’ve always been the serious type of person. The kind that enjoys fantasy, that enjoys adventure, but always sees it as something that is purely left to the realm of fiction.” He watched as she nodded again slowly. “But a part of you, always wanted to live out that fantasy, always wanted the fiction to be real. You’ve even searched for it a few times…maybe even looked up hypnosis, once or twice. Only to decide that it was…probably best to leave that in the world of fiction.”
Siobahn felt herself blush and nodded her head, consciously this time, before taking a breath and finding herself following the watch again. Not even realizing just how calm and relaxed she was feeling. Or how natural this felt.
“You were too shy to try it…you were timid…but the desire was there. And although that desire may not be how or why you ended up here this evening…it is why you stayed. You could have left a long time ago. But yet you watched your friends. one by one, slip into a trance. Hypnotized…just like in your fantasies…right before your eyes.”
“Yyyess…” Siobahn let slip unconsciously before realizing what she said and blushing profusely. So much so that she turned away from the watch for a moment to hide her embarrassment.
“It’s alright…you don’t have to be nervous, don’t have to be embarrassed. Many people come here for the exact same reason. How else would I know what it is that you are thinking. What you are feeling. I may be an incubus, but I'm not a mind reader…I just have experience. I've seen young women, just like yourself, many times before. Serious, grounded, always the kind to keep a level head, but yet…desiring…longing for a little adventure…for just one fantasy, to be real. To be possible. This fantasy…is real Siobahn, it’s ok to let go…it’s ok to indulge in this fantasy, for just a little bit now…”
Siobahn found her head slowly moving back towards Xander, the moment she did her eyes locked onto the watch and began to follow it again, back and forth, slowly, as it swung gently before her. WIthout realizing it she began nodding once again. Her mouth gently opened, ever so slightly, and she let out a breath that she didn’t realize she was holding.
Xander let her just focus on the watch as it moved back and forth in his hand, for several seconds. “I know what you want…Siobahn…I know what it is that keeps you here…what made you follow me into this room, despite seeing my tail. You want to give in, Siobahn. You want to surrender…and slip away into a deep, hypnotic sleep. Just like your friends.”
Siobahn mumbled a response as her glazed eyes looked away from the watch and up at the incubus’ eyes, letting out a soft gasp as she did. She didn’t realize that he had been slowly moving closer and closer to her this whole time. And he was now less than two feet from her. She didn’t say a word, didn’t really react. She just stared, mouth quivering to form a response, but nothing came out.
Xander smiled warmly and slowly moved his free hand up along her cheek and to her forehead, with an almost incomprehensibly soft touch, he moved his fingers along her eyes, and slowly closed her eyelids, softly whispering “Sleep…” into the room.
As his hand moved away from her face, Siobahn sat in the chair with her head still aimed at Xander. Her mouth was barely open, but still, and her eyes were completely closed. There was no sign of movement until her hand fell from her lap and hung limp at her side. She was hypnotized, and on some level…she knew it.
Xander put his pocket watch away and slid into the seat next to Siobahn, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and slowly, gently massaging her shoulder blade as he whispered into her ear. “You are hypnotized Siobahn…you’ve managed to make the fantasy real. You are safe here. It’s ok to just relax…to let yourself fall into the fantasy, into the fiction…made real.”
He watched her closely as her head slowly tilted forward, relaxing more and more with the massage of her shoulder. He could feel that her mind was drifting more deeply into trance. “It’s ok for you to let go. For you to be completely at peace, and to let yourself…indulge that side of you. That side that wants an adventure. That wants to be free.”
A small smile emerged on Siobahn’s face before she simply let her head fall to her chest, bouncing gently as he massaged her back. “You’re in a nightclub now, Siobahn…I suspect for the very first time. The music, although distant, is still something you can hear…something you can feel in your chest, in your mind. You saw all the people out on the dance floor. Active and energized, letting themselves simply drift away…lost in the music, lost in the trance…of the dance.”
That last little rhyme brought a gentle smile to her face that quickly faded. A soft “mmhmm” was barely audible over the sound of the music outside of their private booth.
“It’s what you always wanted Siobahn…to be free. Free from your own restrictions, free from your own filters of what you should, or should not do. Free to express yourself. Which is something you can do here, Siobahn…every single week…again and again…even…right now.” Xander gave a small smile at the suggestion he had just slipped into her mind, and then tilted her head up a bit towards his. “Let go, Siobahn…it’s time to wake up…into your fantasy.” He leaned in and kissed her softly and tenderly.
As the kiss broke, Siobahn’s eyes opened. They were still glassy and dazed, her pupils still dilated. She was clearly hypnotized, but she also seemed more energized. More free. A smile formed on her face as she returned Xander’s kiss, much more passionately, and then pulled back with a smile, not a hint of embarrassment on her face.
The incubus stood up with a confident grin and offered her his hand. “May I have this dance?” he said playfully.
Without a hint of hesitation she took his hand and bounced out of her chair, following him out of the private booth and out onto the dance floor. As soon as she was there it was like she was a completely different person. The reserved, timid Siobahn seemed to be completely gone…or at least…asleep. In her place was someone energetic and confident, who danced with all of her ability. Her body swayed to the music as her body bounced along to the beat, shaking her head from side to side, letting her red hair flow freely as the music flowed through her. Her heart was racing a mile a minute, but her mind was completely calm. She was completely at peace and smiled widely as how good it felt to be so calm, so free.
All the while Xander stayed close to her, making sure that in her state she was protected, and that she wasn’t pulled out of the trance. Song after song he simply watched, dancing a little bit himself, but acting as more of a silent guardian then an outgoing patron.
That is, until the music changed to something a bit more intimate and slow. To his surprise, Siobahn walked right up to him and, without a second thought, grabbed him and started to dance. Their bodies swayed together slowly on the dance floor as the music echoed through the club, and through Siobahn’s open mind. “Thank you.” she said with a genuine smile. “For not giving up on me.”
Xander leaned in and whispered “No reason to give up on you.”
Siobahn leaned the rest of the way up and started to kiss Xander, slower and more passionately this time. Never realizing that, as the kiss went on, her body was giving off a gentle, almost unnoticeable glow under the lights of the club. A glow that slowly faded as the incubus drained the energy from her through the kiss. The effect was subtle at first as a feeling of heaviness washed over her, she felt faint but simply associated it with the kiss. Before she could realize what was happening, the kiss broke and she fell completely limp against Xander. Her head landed against his chest as she drifted off into a deeply drained sleep.
As the night progressed, Xander managed to gather up all of Siobahn’s friends, along with Siobahn herself, and gently sat them back down at the table they had started the evening at. Where each one had been hypnotized, having gone on their own little private adventure. And now each one had returned safely to the table they started at, each still asleep in their own way, hypnotized or drained, it didn’t really matter. As the last of the young women was situated at the table, Xander spoke to them all in a clear, hypnotic voice. “Wou will remember only that you had a wonderful time here tonight.” he started, “So much fun, each and every one of you, that you realize you want to return…again and again. As often as you can.” With that he kissed Siobahn softly on the cheek and left her to sleep off her trance, keeping an eye on her and her friends, as he made his way to the bar to chat with Midnight and Veo.
In the early morning hours, as the club was slowly emptying out for the night, a new track of music began to play. In it was a subliminal message to help all of those who had slipped into a trance begin to wake up. Siobahn took a deep breath as she sat up at the table, feeling disheveled and tired, but oddly…happy. As each of her friends seemed to rouse from their slumber, it didn’t seem odd to any of them that the others had all been asleep. Or that their night was a bit of a blur. They all just relaxed and stretched in their chairs, smiling to one another and talking about how good of a time they had had, but how it seemed like it might be time to go home.
As the young women walked out into the crisp early morning air of New Chicago, Nicole turned to Siobahn. “So, you coming back with us next time?” she teased.
Siobahn gave her friend a confident, almost playful smile in response. “Someone has to make sure you three stay out of trouble.” She tried to answer sarcastically, winking as her demeanor broke and she gave her friends a smile. “I’ll be there!”
The End…for now.
