Description: Siobhan and her friends try to settle into the club, but wouldn’t you know it the most adventurous of the bunch finds herself landing in a bit of trouble…
Siobhan slouched in her chair as the music in the nightclub thumped around her. Having just seen her friend, Nicole, end up hypnotized and taken backstage had left her feeling more than a little confused. On one hand she was concerned for her friend’s well being. Nicole was, after all, prone to charging headfirst into things and not thinking any of them through, and that could get her into some trouble, especially in a place like this. But on the other hand, watching her friend slowly succumb to the hypnotist's words and actions…watching her normally playful and energetic face slowly become more relaxed while her eyes glazed over like that, it was…it was exciting.
Of course, she had absolutely no intention of letting anyone know this was the case. As the others laughed and danced next to the table, Siobahn looked around, trying not to let the confusing emotions show on her face.
“Lighten up!” The sound of her co-worker's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
“What?” Siobhan looked over to Amanda, who was leaning over the table with a smile.
“I said,” She began while rolling her eyes. “Lighten…up! It’s a nightclub, have some fun!”
Siobhan just stared at Amanda. “You’re not the slightest bit worried about Nicole, are you?”
Amanda chuckled and shook her head with a playful smile. “Nicole is fine! She’s just backstage with the hypnotist. It's all part of the act, part of the mystique of this place. Like I already said, you need to lighten up!” she finished, smiling at her friend.
Siobhan sighed and nodded. “Maybe you're right.”
“Of course I am!” Amanda said with a playful giggle. “I'm always right!”
Their other remaining friend, Megan, came over to the table and yelled over the loud music. “The waitress is coming, you need a drink!”
Siobhan rolled her eyes but cut that short as the waitress arrived, she didn’t want to be rude after all. But before she could relax she noticed that there was something…different about the waitress. She was dressed in what she assumed was appropriate attire for the club, wearing a form fitting bodysuit that seemed to have a holographic pattern hidden within it. The pattern gave off an almost rainbow appearance, that made your eyes just…follow the pattern around her body until you got to the young woman’s breasts. At which point it finally became clear that all of the various holographic lines were joining together to form a spiral swirling down to the center where the woman’s nipples would be. And although they weren’t exactly on display, they were clearly pressed against her attire. She also had a serving tray and a notepad which, if nothing else, was a helpful hint that she was a staff member and not just a random clubgoer with very confident tastes in clothing.
But what really stood out to Siobhan was that the woman’s eyes seemed to be extremely glassy, and her face was more or less expressionless. She was staring off into space, almost as if she were daydreaming or…hypnotized. “She’s hypnotized!” Siobhan thought to herself as she looked around the club and, for the first time, really began to notice the staff. Everyone was dressed in a form fitting bodysuit of some kind with the same holographic pattern that would stand out in the light but was otherwise invisible. And every single one had the same blank expression, the same vacant stare. Every single one…was hypnotized. “Holy shit!” she whispered out loud, although not nearly loud enough to be heard over the music.
“I’ll have a rum and coke please!” The sound of Megan ordering a drink brought her attention back to the table. “Siobhan, do you want anything?” she asked, glancing over.
For a brief moment she thought that she wanted nothing more than a good, stiff drink. But then she thought about Nicole and the staff, all hypnotized, and an uneasy feeling crept through her mind. “No thanks, my stomach’s a bit upset. I’d rather just wait a bit!” She said with a fake smile.
Megan rolled her eyes. “What do you recommend? Do you have any house specials?” Amanda chimed in.
The waitress replied instantly, the vacant expression never leaving her face. “Yes miss, the house special, one UnZipHer coming right up.” The dazed waitress spun on her heels and headed in the direction of the bar before anyone could respond.
“Did she say Unzipher?” Megan asked, confused.
“No, she said unzipper, you know, like unbutton. It’s probably just a play on loosening up. Maybe we should order one for her?” She said, giving Siobhan another sideways glance.
Siobhan sighed and rolled her eyes as she started to look around the club again, paying more attention to the people, to the staff, to the patrons. Everything here suddenly seemed more dangerous than she had assumed. But what really scared her was how much that excited her at the same time.
Siobhan was so preoccupied that she didn’t notice the waitress return, setting down the rum and coke on the table for Megan, the UnZipHer on the table for Amanda, and another one near Siobhan. “Compliments of the house.” the waitress said, staring ahead at them.
Siobhan just stared down at her drink, genuinely nervous for the first time. “Ummm….”
Her friends simply laughed at her. “You don’t have to drink it.” Megan said, giving her a reassuring smile.
“Yeah, I’ll have yours too!” Amanda said as she picked up her drink and took a long. slow sip. “Oh wow!” she said looking at the drink. “It’s actually really good!” She took another, longer, sip this time. “It has a bit of a warm feeling to it, too.”
Megan and Siobhan watched as Amanda downed more of the mixed drink, more quickly each time. They also couldn’t help but notice that the more she drank, the more she began to sway her hips in time with the music. Except there was a strange sensuality to the way she was moving, one that hadn’t been before she had gotten hold of the drink. She slammed the glass down on the table and started to fan herself. “Wow! That thing has a kick!” Without even realizing it she started to run her hands up and down along her neck as her whole body swayed with the music, becoming more sensual with each passing beat. Soon her hands were sliding along her legs and up along her stomach, propping up her breasts before raising her hands above her head and spinning slowly, almost wildly.
“Mand?” Megan asked, sounding a bit confused. “You ok?”
“Completely…” Amanda replied. But Siobhan couldn’t help but notice that her eyes had the same glazed expression of the waitress that had delivered their drinks. “This is…wonderful…” she said, sounding dazed and far away.
Megan and Siobhan continued to watch as their friend, who was by no means shy to begin with, started to dance in a much more alluring fashion than they had ever seen before. With every sway, every spin, and every thump of the music her eyes became more glassy, more unfocused. The wide, excited smile on her face morphed into a more subtle, playful grin, until finally it was blank and expressionless. She stared into space as her hands continued to slide along her body while her hips swayed in time to the beat.
Without acknowledging her friends, Amanda began to dance her way down the stairs and towards the dance floor. Every step made it seem as if she was gliding instead of walking. Once she made her way to the floor she joined the mass of people who were simply dancing their cares away, swinging and swaying to the music. She joined a group of two young men and a woman and started to grind her body along theirs. The woman in the group looked equally as dazed as Amanda and both men appeared to be very pleased with their states.
Siobhan felt the same excitement that had bubbled up inside of her when Nicole had been hypnotized as she watched Amanda’s inhibitions disappear on the dance floor. Her body grinded along the body of the man she just met as his hands roamed her form, in places that probably shouldn’t be explored on a person you just met, no less on a public dance floor. But no one else seemed to mind, no one else seemed to care. And that was what scared her the most.
Without realizing it she brought the glass up to her lips and realized what she was holding just as she was about to drink. She looked down at the drink with a mix of fear and excitement, and slowly put the glass down and pushed it away. “No, that isn’t me.” she said to herself. But she didn’t quite believe herself either.
Siobahn looked around the club at all the people moving and dancing, noticing how they all seemed so carefree, how they all seemed so…hypnotized. She couldn’t help but shiver at the thought. Amanda and Nicole had both ended up under the effects of one kind of hypnotic control or another. She looked out at Amanda, rubbing her body up against the stranger she didn’t even know. Siobahn couldn’t even really say she had just met him, because they really hadn’t “met” at all. More just…hooked up. A hypnotic hook up.
The idea echoed through her mind. A hypnotic hook up. The idea of simply being hypnotized in one way or another to just loosen up, and let go, to just give in to the experiences that would come and not worry about the consequences. She couldn’t help but stare out at the club and wonder just how many of the people there, men and women, were in some way, shape or form hypnotized. How many were under the control of another person, willingly or unwillingly, unknowingly doing things they had never imagined, or only thought about in the back of their mind, alone in the dark hours of the night.
But what really scared her was that she wasn’t entirely sure that she was scared. The way her body shivered wasn’t from terror, it was from excitement, arousal. From the idea that, in this place, all of those dark, devious little fantasies might simply come true. If only for a little while.
Then as if on instinct, as if a warning bell had gone off in her head, she shook herself out of the day dream and tried to hide a blush for fear that someone might have heard her own thoughts.
“You ok over there?” Megan asked with a smile and a chuckle. “You look like you just saw a ghost.”
“I’m alright, just…thinking.” Siobhan admitted and then instantly regretted it.
Megan perked up with a smile. “Oh? Thinking of having that drink,” she said pointing to the other UnZipHer on the table. “or thinking of seeing if that stage hypnotist is done with Nicole and available for another…demonstration?”
Siobhan blushed but managed to keep her composure. “I don't think that would work for me.” she said, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
“Why's that?” Megan asked with a smile.
“Well, you know…” she said, thinking about it for a while. “I have way too analytical of a mind to fall for a simple stage hypnosis trick, and I’m not keen on whatever the hell just happened to Amanda, being done to me. So I just think that I would be…unhypnotizable.” she said, both reassuring and disappointing herself at once. On one hand she was safe, on the other hand…she would never be able to experience what her two friends were feeling. But that was probably for the best, she concluded.
Megan laughed and shook her head “Thinking that brain of yours would get in the way, hmm?” she asked, downing the last of her Rum and Coke.
“Yeah.” Siobhan said, realizing that she was simply too smart to be hypnotized and feeling a little more proud of herself. “Yeah.” she said with a smile. “Unlike those two, I’m just too smart to be hypnotized.”
Megan just shook her head and laughed. “Holy shit girl, lighten up a bit!” Siobahn simply folded her arms and huffed. “We’ll see how smart you are…” she said under breath as she looked out at the club, wondering who or what might show up to put her friend into the trance that she so desperately needed.
